Environmental Issues Of Ocean Pollution - 1105 Words
Environmental issues such as ocean pollution is caused by the careless acts of humans. Ocean Pollution is a serious environmental issue that is slowly killing our largest water source and many innocent sea creatures. Some things we will be looking over is the causes and effects as well as the way it is severely killing and destroying not only marine life, but their homes. One of the biggest sources of pollution is called nonpoint source pollution, which occurs as a result of runoff. (What Is the Biggest Source of Pollution in the Ocean? From NOAA, 2016) These are from things like septic tanks, sewers, littering, or automobiles. When we think of pollution, we think of wrappers or plastic pieces that were carelessly thrown into the wild,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦A big issue within all of the plastic in the ocean is the BPA inside. BPA is an organic pollutant and not healthy for our environment. BPA is found in a lot of plastic and kills marine life as it disintegrates in the waters. (Pyrek, C. (n.d.). In Figure 1, you can see an innocent seahorse wrapping their tale around a q-tip. The seahorse in Hofmanââ¬â¢s photo is just one example of how marine animals interact with plastic debris. Human waste is taking over the sea and this photo proves just that. The garbage patch is full of trash that is from runoff or trash left by careless fisherman. In the documentary Plastic Paradise, Angela Sun discusses how fisherman leave fishing nets in the ocean. If they get trapped or dirty, typically the fishermanââ¬â¢s easy way out is to throw it into the ocean and forget about it.
